Kapa Biosystems was founded in 2006 to develop next-generation molecular engineering technologies. Its directed evolution technology platform is currently being used to optimise enzymes for DNA amplification and molecular diagnostic applications.

The Kapa Biosystems management team combines a strong balance of scientific and commercial expertise. Its world-class team of scientists is lead by Chief Scientific Officer, Paul McEwan, who has over 10 years of experience developing breakthrough biochemistry and instrumentation in the field of high-throughput genomics including inventing technologies and automation for the Human Genome Project at the Whitehead Institute Center for Genomic Research. Kapa Biosystems is now leveraging the recent advances in genomics, proteomics, and synthetic biology for advanced protein engineering.

Kapa Biosystems is applying its technology platform to engineer specialty polymerases for a range of PCR and molecular diagnostic markets. The ability to engineer proteins is ushering in the era where applications are no longer designed around the limitations of the enzyme. At Kapa Biosystems, the enzyme is designed for the application.
